Larimer county Commissioners direct staff to prepare a resolution for extingin jail tax.
TCommissioners working with the Sheriff have directed staff to come up with language for the November ballot which would replace the current 0.2% jail operations tax and 0.2% facility construction tax (expiring in 2014 and 2012 respectively) with a 0.375% jail operations tax. The original tax was supposed to support operation of the jail expansion at 44% of the total jail cost. It has not been fully covering the cost and is set to expire soon.
In order to ensure continued strong public the commissioenrs are looking into asking voters to replace the expiring taxes with a new tax for a slightly lower amount. This would result in a net tax savings while still supporting public safety.
